One of the hardest-hit industries during the COVID-19 pandemic is the film and acting industry. Many actors do not qualify for JobKeeper payments. John Stanley caught up with Aussie actor and Chair of ACTober Bruce Spence. He says most people don't realise just how tough actors are doing things at the moment. "When they were in lockdown, when they were in isolation, they were probably turning on their TVs and watching the very people that are out of work," he told John. Got terrible friends? Here's how to dump them

    07/10/2020 Duração: 13min

We all have that one friend. The one who expects the world, but never remembers your birthday. The one who ditches your dinner plans when you’re already halfway to the restaurant. The one who leaves you feeling exhausted, used and emotionally battered.  Why do we keep these people in our lives? How do we go about getting rid of these crappy companions? Neuropsychologist Dr Hannah Korrel is an expert in why our brains make us to, or not do, certain things, and she’s written a book to try and answer the questions I just asked. Dr Korrel's new book How To Break Up With Friends is available today. She joins John Stanley See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

  • October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

    06/10/2020 Duração: 09min

Second only to lung cancer in causing cancer deaths in women, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women in Australia, with an estimated 19,974 new cases likely to be diagnosed by the end of 2020.  A major concern is that during the pandemic people have deferred screening which could delay diagnosis – which is particularly sad given that finding breast cancer early means there are more treatment options and chances of survival are greatest. Breast cancer awareness is important for women of all ages, and their partners play an important role in helping highlight awareness that could be life-saving and equally while breast cancer in men is uncommon at less than 1% of all breast cancers, men should also be vigilant. Sydney Adventist Hospital breast surgeon Dr Sandra Krishan joins John Stanley to revisit what it is, and what we all should be looking out for.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hidden sales results could be skewing property figures

    05/10/2020 Duração: 05min

Sydney's property market could be in worse shape than it would seem on the surface with sellers withholding or delaying "bad" sales and results. Experts have calculated that approximately 60% of auction results were made public in the last two months, down 20% since this time last year. CEO of McCarthy Property Consultants, Warren McCarthy, joins John Stanley to discuss the declining disclosure of sales data, auction clearance rates and developments to the first home buyers scheme. • Battling the burnout epidemic from remote work

Battling the 'burnout epidemic' from remote work

    05/10/2020 Duração: 08min

As we continue to face the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic, it appears that the alarming aftermath is already beginning to emerge.  A recent Australian survey found that amongst 2,700 executives, 84% of Australian bosses are at risk of burnout, 75% feel pulled in too many different directions and 60% feel stressed, anxious and prone to extreme self-doubt. October is Safe Work and Mental Health month, national campaigns that raise awareness towards the signs, symptoms and strategies for combating burnout. As well as this, these movements encourage individuals to make the commitment to care for their mental wellbeing and the safety of others.  CEO and leading psychologist of the Global Leadership Wellbeing Survey, Audrey McGibbon, joins John Stanley to discuss what has now been coined, the ‘Burnout Epidemic’.
