  • LGBTQ Sports and Education in the US with Micah Porter

    17/09/2019 Duração: 50min

I have followed Micah for a while on social media and was excited to get him on as a guest on the show. Not only does he have a life that is unique to some as a man who came out in his late 30's after being married for years with two children. He was also a high school coach where he worked with his wife at the time. His coming out has been a long process, even managing to get through his own decision to try gay conversion therapy with his pastor at a local church. I love how his coming out has helped students and others he has worked with, not just with sexual identity but with other common teen problems. We wrap up our time together talking about his involvement with the awesome group "You Can Play". I hope you enjoy this week's episode.

  • Former soccer and current beach handball player, Athena Del Rosario

    11/09/2019 Duração: 01h10s

I got together with Athena Del Rosario a few weeks ago in our local library and had a discussion about her life. Transitioning in the 90's was tough without doctors and the internet but Athena found a way to start the process before seeing her first doctor. After the 2008 recession, Athena used a short stint in the adult film industry to help pay for her transition. She would return to college in her late twenties and return to sports.  During the podcast we do spend about 10 minutes doing free advertising for the beautiful UC-Santa Cruz campus (Go Banana Slugs) and we talk about her involvement with the potential olympic sports, Beach Handball. Enjoy our conversation. Like, share and retweet and share our conversation. Please rate and review to help spread the love on Apple Podcast. Check out Athena on twitter at @MsGoalieQueen. In this episode we talk about growing up in PR, her early tennis success, coming out, partnering with greats like Martina Navratilova, gold medal wins and of course many Grand Slam doubles titles. Reaching number 1 in doubles and as high as 17 in singles Gigi definitely had a successful tennis career.  Special appearance by Gigi's wife Jane Geddes. • Talking US Open and tennis with Brian Vahaly

    27/08/2019 Duração: 58min

First of all so sorry for my voice during the intro and outro, recorded while sick. I loved talking tennis this week, especially as we begin the US Open the night before the release and Brian Vahaly was a rad guest. During our one hour conversation, which was recorded while his boys slept and he was outside, we speak about his playing days. Part of that conversation includes his junior days, college days at University of Virginia as well as his ATP career. Unfortunately injuries cut his professional time short. He eventually returns to the game and joins the USTA board where this past Thursday created the first official US Open pride event, Love All : An Open Conversation. You can check out the Facebook Live event here: https://www.facebook.com/usopentennis/videos/522344351850298/ You can find Brian over on Instagram at @bvahaly If you have feedback please reach out to me on twitter or Instagram at @LPFPod, on facebook at :https://www.facebook.com/LPFpod/ or via email at [email protected] Reall

  • An Interview with Australian footballer Andy Brennan

    02/07/2019 Duração: 01h42s

Over a month ago Andy Brennan came out on Instagram telling the world that he was gay. What is so surprising to me is that it was less than a year that he really accepted who he was. This episode we talk about growing up in Australia with a loving family, playing sports and continuing to progress in his football career. We spoke late last week, and this is coming out only a few short days from recording and right before he scored his first goal and tying the game right before the half. Gully would finish strong and ended up winning this weekend. Congrats to Andy and the team. Thank you also goes to Matt Johnson for providing the photos for this episode here and on social media. 25/06/2019 Duração: 52min

When I first heard about Luke Tuffs I knew I wanted to get him on the podcast. Between his humor and willingness to be open and honest, he made it a great chat. I loved learning about Luke's early life, transitioning from player to coach. How he splits time between his new 1st Team manager position with Knaphill FC and continuing to be the Academy Manager at Pulse Chertsey Football Academy. • An Interview with Kate Scott

    18/06/2019 Duração: 01h16min

When I first started this podcast I knew my next guest was a lofty goal and to have achieved the opportunity to chat with this Bay Area media person was rad. We talk about growing up in Fresno & Clovis, California. Her decision to attend Cal, her first date, working at KNBR (and accidentally coming out on air) and working at the Pac 12 network. With all that, we even found time to talk about 49er Pride and the Women's World Cup.  I hope you enjoy this episode with Kate Scott.  You can follow her on twitter and instagram at @katetscott

  • An interview with Anastasia Bucsis, a former Olympic speed skater and current CBC sports personality

    11/06/2019 Duração: 48min

As a fan myself of interview/storytelling type podcasts myself, this episodes guest is near the top of favorites for me. I hope you enjoy my interview with former Canadian Olympic speed skater and current host of a CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company) podcast called 'Players Own Voice. You might find it odd I am plugging another podcast in my own episode but Anastasia does an amazing job on POV. I hope you enjoy my interview with Anastasia on the 11th of June and then head on over to ITunes or where ever you get your podcasts for the season 2 premier of Players Own Voice on June 12. During our time together we talk about her beginnings in Speed Skating, of course realizing who she is while growing up. We talk about the importance of athletes coming out, not only to help their own well being but also to help others. An example of this is her story meeting the gay Canadian former Olympic Swimmer and champion Mark Tewksbury. Story can be found here is you want to give it a listen: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/po

  • An Interview with former NRL rugby player Ian Roberts

    04/06/2019 Duração: 01h02min

If you would have told 19 year old me that one day I would be speaking to rugby player and sex symbol Ian Roberts I would have told you that you had a screw loose. Never thought this would have happened but reaching out on twitter and some texts later we set up this interview. Ian is a wonderful person and I told him I feared talking to him because I was afraid my image of him would be knocked down a bit but after talking to him for over an hour a few weeks ago my admiration and appreciation have gone even higher. He is someone I hope I get to meet in real life one day. I hope you enjoy our chat where we discuss his sexuality, coming out to family and friends, his teammates and eventually the world. He called it the worse kept secret in rugby but I think it even caught him off guard how big a moment that was, especially for me. Sorry for bringing up his body more than I ever have a previous guess but the sex symbol thing for me was big. He is wonderful and I truly hope you appreciate what he has to say.

From the opening moment I knew I was going to have a great time with this two. I reached out to Kirk a few weeks ago and was excited for him to say yes. We spoke on a Monday night a few weeks ago and I enjoyed our conversation. During the 1 hour or so we chatted we covered a lot as we talked about his life. From growing up in southern California during the 70's and 80's, learning at a young age that he loved the experiencing of coaching the sports just as much as playing. Over his softball coaching career that started at UCLA while attending the school, he would move into a head coaching career at Oregon State. While there he was successful in building a strong program as well as building an amazing family. He explained how he ended back at UCLA as an assistant coach.
